Selected aspects of minimalisation of waste production

Abstract: The problem of waste generation in both manufacturing processes and human activities not directly linked to the technological processes requires effective prevention. There is a need to develop such patterns of production, trade and consumption, which will be conducive to reducing waste and maximum use of resources contained in them. The benefits of minimising waste can be considered both in terms of economic as well as environmental and social.

Assumptions for construction complaint management system including reverse logistics

Abstract: The primary objective of developing a system of complaint management is the integration of knowledge acquired – in this case from i.a.: operators, engineers, specialists, managers, which directly concerns the production – as well as quantitative and qualitative data about the particular complaint. These data can be obtained from the internal or external client who informed about problem. Client is the most valuable source of information for the enterprise. Subsequently collected data is processed into information that solves the problem. Take account of fact that complaints are in every company, especially in the production company and considering the multiplicity of publications about search for causes of problems, identification of assumptions for construction a comprehensive complaint management system is an essential points. This system will include range of different areas of the company, which will support to make decisions in easier way. It will affect to the reduction of the quality costs.

Improving the process of EDI message generation in an ERP class system using a spreadsheet-based tool

Abstract: Information and telecommunication technologies are among the smart specialisations defined for Silesian Voivodeship. The problem faced by many organisations in this respect is the manual execution of processes which involve data processing. It exists in spite of using state-of-the-art IT solutions, and there are even cases when it exactly stems from their application. It may be solved through process automation by means of tools created in spreadsheets. An example of such a tool, deployed for the purpose of automation of a process implemented for generation of EDI messages in an ERP class system, has been described in the article. What has also been discussed is the course of a process performed by a man as well as basic components of the tool proposed. The article also provides a comparison of duration times required to complete the process under different variants, both before and after the implementation of the tool created.

Micro-tools based on the relational data model vs. the development of smart specialisations

Abstract: This article addresses the concept of application of micro-tools based on the relational data model for developing smart specialisations of key importance for innovative growth. Major components of the concept proposed for purposes of creation of the tools in spreadsheets have been described. Also the manner in which the identified entities are then represented in spreadsheets has been discussed. The solutions proposed by the author have been elaborated upon with regard to the goal of ensuring data integrity as well as acquisition of the assumed information systems. What has also been identified is the spheres of smart specialisations where development as such has become a part of the development of the concept described, but also the spheres in which the latter may yet find application.

Process map as an innovative tool of quality optimisation of the production process

Abstract: Process mapping is of significant importance in quality management as it allows us to precisely analyse the processes going on in the organisation and, based on it, conduct an analysis of the critical points in the production process using selected quality management tools or methods. Organisations constantly search for new, innovative solutions and methods which can be used to increase their efficiency and product quality. An important measure taken by today's companies is the identification of causes of the defects recorded in the production process, and analysis of returns from external clients. This makes it possible to reduce production costs and increase the company's reliability in the eyes of the client. However, to achieve it, the company first needs to map the process. The article presents improving the production process of a vibrating screen manufactured by a company which produces machinery and equipment for the mining industry, using a process map. The analysis conducted made it possible to propose corrections and changes to the production process, which increased the efficiency of the analysed product.

Example of use of quality tools in the improvement of maintenance process

Abstract: The article presents the results of observational studies conducted in one of Silesian production companies. The research was aimed at improving the maintenance process and focused on the analysis of utilization of working time by the employees. The measurements were taken for three randomly chosen persons. The most important actions performed by the employees were identified and assigned to effective time – spent on everyday duties connected with maintaining the functionality of technical equipment, auxiliary time – dedicated to preparatory and administrative activities, and ineffective time, during which the employees performed actions not connected with their work. Among the ineffective and auxiliary actions those which took the longest were separated. In order to reduce their duration, the 5-Why method was used. It allowed us to identify the causes responsible for the overly long duration of auxiliary actions. As a result of the analysis conducted, corrective measures were proposed aimed at reducing the duration of those actions along with a system for their assessment, which should lead to an improvement in the efficiency of maintenance department employees.

Selected aspects of quality engineering in managing the operation of machinery and equipment mining – case study

Abstract: In the article elements of quality engineering have been presented, such as: Pareto chart and FMEA method for evaluating the scraper conveyor’s failure frequency. A percentage share of particular failures in the scraper conveyor has been estimated by means of the Pareto chart. FMEA was used to identify the causes of failures and their effects. Quality engineering elements can be widely applied in an initial analysis of technical facilities’ failure frequency in various industry branches.

Product and waste balance of metallurgical coal preparation plant

Abstract: Extraction of coal deposits contributes to generation of large amounts of mining and processing waste. The issue of waste management in case of metallurgical coal washing is even more serious because of requirements of customers demanding low ash content in final product. In case of thermal coal more mineral matter is delivered to final user. The aim of the article is to present product and refuse intelligent output balance based on data acquired from an exemplary colliery. Because of the fact the whole feed is being washed, the company is forced to look for alternative and innovative ways of waste utilization in order to avoid waste disposal charge. The included balance diagram presents the current application means of by-product recovery in a coal mine and the market. The gangue, coarse and fine processing waste, other refuse are used in underground technologies, civil and power engineering reducing the company loss caused by generation of undesired products.
